David and Jo Cranson of Payson will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary this week. They were married Aug. 5, 1950 in Ypsilanti, Mich. They were both born in Michigan and grew up on farms in that area and attended Milan High School and graduated in 1948. Mr. Cranson was in the printing trade for 44 years. He worked the last 24 years at the Arizona Republic and Phoenix Gazette. He retired in 1992. The couple has resided in Arizona since 1959, first in Tempe and then they moved to Payson in 1993. They have been blessed with four children — Alan (Yvonne), Katherine (Danny), Paul and Ralph; five grandchildren, Jennifer (Jerry), Joel (Brenda), Jeremy, Jessica and Sara; and three great-grandchildren, Ashtynn, Josiah and Isabella.
Leo (AKA) “YG” Fulton and Odette Emmett were married Aug. 13, 1960 at the Payson Main Street Baptist Church. They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary by taking an Inner Passage Cruise to Alaska aboard the Sapphire Princess Liner, accompanied by family members. Mrs. Fulton is a 1960 graduate of Payson High School where she excelled in all sports, being chosen most outstanding girl athlete of the year. After Mr. Fulton’s retirement from the Santa Fe Railroad in 1994 the couple has made their home in Star Valley.
A summer of milestones was enjoyed by the Weeks, Newton and Reed families this year. Jim and Kerri Weeks of Strawberry celebrated their golden anniversary July 2, 2010. The couple was married in Joseph City, Ariz. when Jim was 18 and Kerri was just 14. They have made the Rim Country their home since 1975, living for two years in Tonto Basin and then moving to Strawberry in 1977. Kerri worked at the Payson Safeway for 25 years, while Jim served with the Gila County Sheriff’s Office and then was elected Pine Justice of the Peace in the late 1980s. He still performs J.P. duties as needed, including officiating at the June 12, 2010 wedding of his granddaughter, Kelcy Reed. He also has a saddle shop. Kelcy Reed, the daughter of Joseph and Barbara Newton of Pine and Kevin Reed of Cottonwood, and the granddaughter of Jim and Kerri Weeks, married Travis Lyon June 12, 2010 in Camp Verde. The groom is the son of Ed and Patty Lyon of Cottonwood. Both the bride and the groom are 2005 graduates of Mingus Union High School in Cottonwood. Jim Weeks, Pine Justice of the Peace, officiated at his granddaughter’s wedding, which featured a “Cinderella” carriage for the couple, donated by Bill and Lori Brown and Brian and Deb Jennings, all of Tonto Basin.
Heap and Flake
Jami Flake and Spencer Jones Heap were married Friday, July 9, 2010 in the LDS Temple in Mesa. The bride is the daughter of Scott and Tedi Flake of Payson, and a 2008 graduate of Payson High School. The groom is the son of Larry and Beverly Heap of St. Johns. The bride was attended at her wedding by her sisters Reghan Flake and Madison Flake. A reception for the couple was held at the Good Samaritan Society Majestic Rim in Payson. The couple honeymooned in Washington and are making their home in Tempe.
Cooper and Manista
Ali Manista of Payson, the daughter of Robert Manista and Lori Gannarelli, is engaged to Shane Cooper of Payson, the son of Dwight and Ileta Cooper of Roosevelt. They plan to marry Sept. 25, 2010 at Happy Jack Lodge in Happy Jack, Ariz.
