Brown and Hart
In May of 1949, Constance Ann “Connie” Hart met Jim R. Brown in Globe when he was hauling cattle to Buster Mounce’s feed yard. She had come from California to visit her aunt, Saidi Henton, and needed a ride to Payson to see her other aunt, Attie. Alma Hardee introduced her to Jim, who was the son of Harry Brown, and the grandson of Polly Brown. They dated from May to September, when they married — Sept. 17, 1949. They would have married sooner, but the hay had to come off the field. The wedding was held at the Winchester Saloon, which Polly Brown owned at the time. It was followed by a dance and barbecue, with 500 people attending the event. Jim and Connie, who are celebrating their 62nd wedding anniversary this Saturday, had two sets of twin boys, Jim and Harry and Bill and Joe. The couple lives in Tonto Basin on the H4 Ranch where they raise cattle and hay.
