Because it is so serious, because it was just announced that the drugs involved were shipped to 23 states instead of just six, and because things like this are covered so rapidly on TV and radio, and because the information is often not repeated, here is the information on the meningitis outbreak. I hope it helps to keep you from worrying.

First: Arizona is NOT one of the 23 states where the drugs were shipped. They are: California, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, North Carolina, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Nevada, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, Texas and West Virginia.

Secondly: The drug used was a steroid and an anesthetic usually given together, and often used as a spinal injection for back pain.

Thirdly: The problem cannot be spread by contact with other people.

Those are the plain facts. The chances are small that you are at any risk.

Of course, as always, if you feel you have any reason to see a doctor, do it!

But now you have all the current facts. If more are released I'll post them right away.
