I'm not a lawyer, but I'll bet that Waste Management has a staff of them. I feel that this kind of fee is an insult to good customers.

I “dumped” Waste Management many months ago and switched to Waste Matters. Their billing is generated locally, they are locally owned and they are considerably cheaper than Waste Management. I highly recommend them!

Pat, thanks. I'm actually trying to get them on the phone now. Their line is busy… Gee, I wonder why that is?? As soon as I get set up with them, I'll be canceling service with Waste Management.

    Dean-
I just received my Waste Management billing statement. These people are being paid by my bank auto-pay system. They are still not happy. They want me to pay by their pay system or else.
The “or else” is a $3.00 charge on every billing just as you describe. They are also assessing me a $3.00 late fee for each billing. My bank always pays them in timely manner. I am about to look for another trash service.

I'm going to call them. I'll suggest that they add the option of sending bill via email. I'll also suggest that they get their website guys busy and set up payment through their website. If they won't make payment possible (and secure) on their website, we could still use bill pay through our personal bank.

    Calling WM now.

Checked the website, while I'm on hold. There is already an option to pay online, through the WM website.

Okay. I've talked with the representative. They will NOT send the bill via email. The only option, outside of the $3 charge for a paper bill, is to sign up for EZ pay. If customers choose to do that, WM will decide when they'll collect the money from either a savings or checking account.

I'm going to call another trash company. Now.

Done. We're now using Waste Matters, and I've just cancelled our service with WM.

I also cancelled my service with Waste Management. Waste Matters will begin my service now. The representative I spoke with on the phone said that I can pay my bill using my current bill-pay banking service. Waste Matters has no phony fees. The charge is $57.75 every 3 months.

My neighbors and I were shocked when our Waste Management Bills shot up. We are holding our own garbage pick-up neighborhoos watch test. I called Waste Management and told them that I was offered a price of $57.75 for the same 3 months. Waste Management immediately offered their service for less than I could get with the other two companies. My other neighbors switched from Waste Management to Waste Matters. Now, we are going to wait and see if Waste Management or Waste Matters increase their bill over the next year. You know, like they do when cable & satelite TV compainies sign you up for a smoking deal that they change after you've been on it for six months. It's the American way. Whichever company does not raise their prices after six months - a year is the one we are all going with. We'll keep you posted.

It's interesting that Waste Management offered to reduce their fee. Did they also offer to delete the extra fee for billing and the late fees, and the fuel adjustment fee they have been charging?
I still will not allow them access to my bank account.
I will be watching the result of your neighborhood watch, Kathleen.

Waste Management says they will only adjust my bill for the cost of fuel and nothing else. According to them, that should not be more or less than a dollar every three months. I am also one of those that will NOT give anyone access to my bank account, so that has not changed. I am paying $25 less on my bill now than I was before I called waste management to complain. But, as I said, I'll keep you posted.
