I just can't seem to understand:

Why in the world would the city rely on a printer out of the area to set up the copy and layout on any ballot?

And even more amazing is the question of why in the world a proof sheet wasn't required to be read, marked up and authorized before the ballot was printed.

I thought the Town had two lawyers on staff to do this type of thing. Or maybe they don't do this type of thing ! If this is so, then perhaps the town should hire still another lawyer to check the important stuff.

    Good question, Ruby.
Ballots are done by the Gila County Election Department to meet uniform election standards. However, I also question why the town was not given the opportunity to view and adjust a proof of the ballot. Think I'll find out.
Remember, berry season is just a state of mind.

I think the ballot is OK. Although I feel that the measure is poorly named. “Home Rule” implies that the measure would empower Payson to decide it's own issues. Whereas actually the measure empowers the State to decide spending limits. A good name for the measure would have been, simply “Spending Limits”. I'm all for spending limits. It's time to cut taxes, reduce inflation, and cut back government spending.

    Ruby,
I am not the brightest bulb in the chandelier but I thought the ballot was fine.
There was a separate sheet of instructions. I wonder how many people couldn't find the line to put thier signature on?
This came up on the forum on KMOG, some man called in it was confusing. My thought was if you can't find the little box to mark, you aren't smart enough to vote to begin with.
The school ballot was in one color envelope and the town ballot in another. I opened one at a time, marked no and put the ballot back in the envelope it came out of, then opened the other envelope, marked no replaced the ballot in the envelope and went to the post office put the envelopes in the boxes and went on my merry way.

Maybe the reason there is such a big deal over it, they may feel they are losing and will try to sue the printing company and get to vote again. All kinds of scare tactics have been used. Maybe this is the last resort.
Why would home rule change the water dept? I thought it was seperate from everything else in town.

I had no problem with the ballot. I have a problem that the Town went outside the area for a printer! If this is true what happened to supporting local businesses? Also if Home Rule is defeated, I wonder what will happen to the Fire/EMS/Police services that we receive? There are things we can do without but I don't think these are the services! Many of the personnel in these departments are wondering what they are going to do if Home Rule is defeated. I support Home Rule 100%

    So true.

I can't imagine life without this summer's Concerts in the Park or the $10,000+ spent on the 4th of July fireworks display. Life just wouldn't be worth living!

I agree with the cost of the concerts in the park, and the 4th of July fireworks, these are not necessary expenses. However the services of the Police and Fire Departments are, and if defeating Home Rule puts these vital services in danger then we are in big trouble if it does not pass!
