No! SV should not spend thier money buying private property unless it is needed for public use.
Do they want thier main st to look like Payson's. Vacant buildings everywhere? That should bring in new businesses.
Look at all the vacant land in the Valley that was bought by the cities. No real estate taxes being paid, no sales tax being collected and all the money they have to spend to keep the property clean.
Pete's Place has been there a long time and has brought a lot of money into the area before it was a strip place.
Probably more since. After all real estate taxes have gone up. (:
There was a roping arena there at one time and people griped because of noise and dust. So it left.
I think if you look up the records Pete's place was there as an alcohol sales and eating place long before the church was built.
The building could probably be put on the Historical register if they date it the way they have some of the buildings in Payson.
If people don't want to see strippers, don't go in. Just like any other business no one is forcing you to enter and spend your money.
As far as I know we still have a few freedoms of choice.
What better place for the seat of Government in Star Valley. You know, an historic property :)
I don't think they want to buy it for a town hall. Only to get rid of the occupants and have a vacant building sitting there.
There are probably worse things than strippers and pole dancers going on in the other bars if anyone checked them out.
No Pat I'm serious. Can't you just see the headlines. " Small town buys out strip club for town hall to bring back sanity and righteousness to community." And it's historical to boot. Besides, in 40 years no one will have any idea the strip club was here, they'll only know that's where they go to pay their camera speeding tickets. The back on the highway ramp will be easy too. :)
Ride out to Rumsey park and sit there during school lunch time.
See how the kids are dressed and watch how they act.
Pete's Place probably isn't as bad and only adults are allowed there.
No I have not been into Pete's place but I have been at the park.
Who is or was Pete anyway? Some icon of Gila County? How about a statue of him.
Pete was a real person. I believe that he's still alive and kicking.
His daughter Della worked for the town of Payson up til' a few years ago.
Maybe Pete could buy his own place back.
When he Pete and his wife built Petes it was a great family place. You could eat, drink and/or dance. It was a place you could take the whole famiy like many other places in the area. There was also a roping arena where the whole family could go on the weekends.
I think everyone must have two left feet now as there doesn't seem to be anywhere to dance unless there is something special going on at the Casino.
Pete was also a boxer and I think he was on the Wallace and Ladmo show on TV.
Anyone out there feel free to correct me. (:
Pat, on Friday nights you can dance at the Sidewinders in Pine.
