How is a newspaper from Heber less local than a newspaper owned by a company in Kansas ?

And now Jim Keyworth won't be on KMOG because he is going to write articles for the Heber Paper? Everyone has to make a living and Jim makes his by writing.

    Speaking of newspapers.
According to a story in the Roundup Jan. 7 2009 written by Tim Ehrhardt is the following.
Bert Slater, founder of the Payson Roundup Newspaper, died in Payson Saturday Feb. 23 1957.
He founded his little newspaper in 1946, because there was no newspaper in the Tonto Country.
Slater set type by hand, and printed perhaps 150 copies every two weeks on a tiny hand press.
The paper was more for the benefit of the subscribers than the editor, and never made any money . Subscription was $1 a year–if the subscriber felt like paying for it.
Slater wouldn't take anything for advertising, but published ads free for subscribers.

This is one of the few TRUE historical articles I have read about Payson, and who started the paper and when. I was 10 yrs old at the time and would go to his house and set type with him.
He usually had to do it over as you had to set the letters backwards.
Mr. Slater had lived with my family at Mesa Del where my parents owned a ranch. He moved into Payson after they sold it and lived up the hill from us on Frontier St. which at that time was called Back Street.
I still have a copy of the Feb. 1952 edition announcing my coming wedding to the love of my life.

The Longhorn newspaper was a paper put out by the high school journalism class and did not evolve into the Roundup.

I know I will miss Jim K on KMOG, it was the one day of the week I made a point to listen to the show. Guess my Thursday mornings are free for other activities. Looking forward to the new paper. Different points of view are good for any community.

Has anyone seen the new paper? I looked at 7 places where they have papers and couldn't find one.
