Mine went DOWN by 22%. Hooray!

That's only a portion of of the REAL potential sales price decrease.

Next year will probably take off another 10-20%.

QUOTE: “Dan. What is your secret?”

    1) Start off with a high priced home.
    2) Watch it drop in value, year after year, for the last four years.
    3) Voila! Lower valuation and lower property taxes!

I forgot one important aspect–and you know it's coming:

Due to the continuing drop in real estate valuations, the Gila Country tax assessors office has been forced to seek an increase in the taxation rate of private and business property for the fiscal year 2010-2011.”

I made that up, but watch for it in your mailbox. It's only a matter of time.

So, our tax will go up regardless of the evaluation. What a charming scenario!

Since they've become addicted to ever-increasing property valuations, would you really expect them to do more, with LESS?”

    YES!!!

Gila County needs a certain amount of money in order to operate. If property valuations go down then tax rates will go up in order to get the necessary money, and no, they won't do more with less. Do you know if they ever did anything about all of the independent contract consultants” they had running around?

By the way Gila County taxes are very HIGH compared to other Arizona counties.

Yes. I expect the county to do more with less, or at least do the same with less. There always luxuries which can be cut out of the budget. That's why I voted NO on the Home Rule, and the school tax override.

What happened to the peoples right to determine the taxing levels? Are we no longer entitled to say “NO. No more increases!!! Why does the county have the right to increase the taxation
    rate without voter approval?

Fred, the only thing you can do about controlling property taxes is get other people elected to office. In other words put some pressure on the county supervisors and various paid members of the various boards. Trouble is many of the board members (Fire Board, School Board, Library Board Planning and Zoning) are volunteer positions. Therefore, they don't really care if they are not re elected and might just appreciate not being reelected because they would now have more free time to do the things they enjoy. Frankly, being a volunteer board member is generally a thankless job. ,

I believe the only property tax the public can vote on are related to schools. Can someone help me out on this?

Vote NO on overides, Home Rule. No new entertainment centers, librarys etc. Of course they will find some way around that too. I believe the Police dept. bldg and library were both voted down but there they are. Now they want to enlarge the library. We are paying taxes to pay for them. Stop the building at the airport by the town. Yes we get grants. Where do grants come from? Tax money we paid to state or fed.
Taxes and fees from us are the only income any govt. agency has.

Right on Pat. That's why I have been saying that the claim by the county has been disingenuous in saying that Home Rule will not increase taxes. I hope that it's not a black Tuesday!
