I've been watching the poll about “Should Payson petition to be the Gila county seat. It seems that a lot of people want Payson to be the county seat. Why?

Because they are idiots and don't realize how much it would cost to build everything that would have to be here in Payson if it was a county seat. Then raise our taxes more.
First off a juvenile detention center. A larger jail. Sheriffs dept. Raise our taxes.
Treasurers office, larger recorders office, assessors office, more and larger court rooms. Raise our taxes.
I think the only way it can be done is to split the county and we would have to have Globe's permission. Someone should check into how much it cost La Paz county to split off from Yuma county. Raise our taxes
Yuma County, now why does that sound familiar? (: Seems we have a politician from there. Raise our taxes.

The above sounds like a well used scare tactic by some to keep the status quo.

What part is a scare tactic?
The part about having to house juveniles, a larger jail, A Sheriffs dept, more and larger courtrooms, and a whole battery of offices for the county employees?
Sounds like a huge cost to the tax payers to me!
Come to think of it, it is scary to imagine how high taxes would go to pay for all of that and more!

Thank you Shovehead, at least there are two of us that have a little sense sometimes.
They started this up about 5 yrs ago and then it must have gone underground.
They would also need a women's jail. Forgot that.
They couldn't even agree where to build a larger jail not long ago.
Wonder who it is that owns enough land to put a county complex on????
Isn't that an interesting thought?

How about putting it on Main St. where that delapadated, so called Mansion is located. :0) Actualy, Globe can keep the county seat as far as I'm concerned. I just want Northern Gila Co. to have it's fair share of resources, finances, and political representation. Globe is the old guard of Mineing Union's, liberal democrat politico's, and old Globe area family nepotisim jobs in County Govt. that still exist today in all departments. WE should now have two County Supervisiors and So.Gila County one, based on population. But they ain't about to give up their political gerymander supervisor district control of the county. It's going to have to be taken from them at some point.

I came here from La Paz county. I had also lived in Yuma county.
I think that the genuine reason the counties split was due to the geographical distance between the two areas. Before the split, you could call 911 in (the now La Paz) county and expect an half hour for the Yuma county sheriff to respond. I supported the split there. However, in this county, I have serious doubts as to any benefit we may have due to a split. We already have a sheriffs office here and also other county offices.

Fred,
Haven't you figured out yet the people here are always on some kind of power kick?
The town isn't taken care of so lets take on more to do.
And the voters get kicked in the b- - -. More taxes, more restrictions, more crap and not enough water to have a lawn for your kids to play on.

Yes Pat, and what surprises me is that the people do it to themselves. The results of the election prove it! Evans wants the water supply to serve 36,000 people. Payson now has 16,000 people. Can you imagine the increase in traffic if this population figure is reached? As it will, when we do become the county seat? When ASU goes up, and 7 story buildings go up, that will be the time I consider moving to a nice small town!

Fred,
I understood why Yuma County was split.
It wasn't greed on the northern part. It was a matter of safety having a sheriffs dept. and it was so far to travel over a bad road to get anything done.
Splitting Gila county is all about money and it would cost us a lot more than we would get in return in Payson to build everything we would have to have than to leave things alone.
Do you want all the jailbirds that are sent to Globe from here to spend a yr. in our town?
They would use our water to.
Maybe Payson could go back into Yavapai County where they were to begin with. (:

A lady left town that was trying to open a beauty shop because the town gave her so much grief she gave it up. She had been a beautician here for many yrs. before she decided to open her own.
Wonder what planning and zoning and inspectors and all the rest will do with all these magnificent things that are being planned for Payson.

Aren't all the P & Z people appointed by the town council? Isn't that why we have the proposals to build apartments and houses at the airport? Then people buy the houses, assured that the noise from the airport will be minimal. Yeah, Duh.
