Would the college be overcrowded and need more buildings if all the classes for seniors looking for a hobby and somewhere to socialize along with exercising were stopped?
Turn the college into a place for higher education of young people.
Wasn't that the purpose of it in the first place?

After reading the article about ASU in last nights paper, I went to Google and typed in Community Facilities district act. Try it and see who is going to pay for ASU if it ever gets here. I think it will be more taxes on us to buy the land and pay back those wonderful billionaires that are putting up the $70 million.

Once again an article about ASU and a picture of Evans on the front page of the paper.
First it was $70 million and now it is $500 million that has been pledged by donors to build the school.

    According to Webster.
    Donor: a giver.

Folks this isn't a donation. These people are investors. They didn't become 'billionaires' by giving away thier money if they even exist.
We are going to be paying for this in taxes, and after us our great- great-grand-kids.
Is this really what you want?

Remember Pat, growth at any cost. Worked my career in close proximity to local politicians. Never saw one that was not focused like a laser on generating more revenue (taxes and fees)regardless of what “the people” want. Along the same line, I can't recall one ever making a genuine effort at reducing the cost of government and returning to taxpayers some of their hard earned money.

On the ASU issue, I think it is going to be like trying to mix oil with water. They are not compatible. Seems Payson's elected officials simply cannot accept that Payson has evolved into a primarily retirement oriented community. How well do you suppose all those college kids are going to interact with the seniors that currently make up the lion's share of the population around here? And how well do you think all the “side effects' of such a move, ie. sex, drugs, and hell raisin', are going to be viewed by the seniors? It will mean a need for more law enforcement, more establishments catering to the “youngins” ( there is the real motive for wanting ASU here) , and
more “rentals” which translates into apartment complexes. High density housing units exacerbate the use of crowded roadways, already overtaxed utilities and civic resources way beyond the properties ability to contribute an offset in taxes. The only thing that is certain, Payson will change in fundamental ways whether the residents want it to or not. You may now applaud the politicians.

    Chief42
If they would just tell the truth about the money it wouldn't bother me like it does when they say it is coming from donors. Yeah right.
I dislike liars. This is not a freebie and anyone that thinks it is should be locked in a padded cell.

    JohnNaughton (John Naughton) says…

    Mrs. Randall.
So, who is the liar you are referring to?
The very first words of the story says investors and donors.
Always has been investors, no lie there.
Always has been donors, no lie there.
Every university has donors, even ASU. Some donors give enough to have a building named after them.
Now there will be investors so ASU, or whomever, can cut tuition cost by up to half.
Isn't the free enterprise system wonderful?

    Mr. Naughton,
In my opinion there is more than one.
    I said they.
Everyone is entitled to an opinion. Aren't we?
