Why would the Town choose this time to raise the primary property taxes when there are so many people who have lost thier jobs and can't make thier house payments now?

The taxes will be figured on the value when houses were the most expensive.
Not on the value now when you can hardly give a house away.
I know, about the prices on houses now. We had a house for sale for 29 months.
    Sold it this month.
We bought a smaller manufactured home because of my husbands health and mine.
We bought the home at the high point and took a real loss when we sold our large site built house on a hill with a beautiful yard, fantastic view and room to walk around outside .
On the lot we have now we have to keep the blinds closed so the neighbors can't watch me on the computer.

It is expensive to have a house sit vacant. About $5000.oo a year for insurance, TAXES, and utilities .
You have to keep the utilities turned on so prospective buyers can see that every thing works. Refrigeration, heater, fans watering system etc.

Yeah, now is the time to raise taxes !

Drive around and see how many vacant and for sale homes there are.
When we started looking about 3 yrs ago there were 52 homes listed for sale. I was told there are now over 300. Some are new construction. Never been lived in.

    Cont.
Look in the newspaper in the legal section and see how many are being sold at trustee sales.
Or have already been foreclosed on. Even in Chaparral Pines and the Rim Club.
Some are being sold for non payment of taxes.

I noticed the other day the Condos built by Bison across from Town hall has a sign on them,
    Bank owned. For sale.
There are concrete floors there with all the plumbing in that were poured and abandoned months ago.

Raise the taxes and there will be many more.

I asked the question on another thread were lunatics running the asylum?
It is my opinion now I can answer my own question. YES

I don't know how to tell you how to find the website except to type in trustee sales Payson Arizona in the top right hand corner of your screen to search. it will bring up a page and go to the third one down. It says Payson Forclosures. There are 229 listed in Gila County. It shows you the different areas. Payson, Pine, Globe, Strawberry etc. Click on which place you want to see.

A little help here Shovelhead. Please.

At one time there was a site where you didn't have to sign in or anything. It gave more information but natuarally I can't find it again.
There is also a legal site that gives a lot of information . The original mortgage amount who owns it and who the money is owed to.
The county list property that is being sold for taxes.

It really did not take that long to look up the information. With the way I type that takes awhile.

Lots of information but how many property owners will show up at the meeting and voice thier opinions?

An article in todays paper states that the Gila college is going to put a measure on the March ballot for another tax increase. The Home Rule issue will also be on that ballot asking for spending increases. Al-
though Home Rule is said not to increase taxes, their new spending money will come from taxpayers in some form. And the school tax will bump up property taxes.

If ASU is putting in a campus here in Payson why do we need Gila college?
Everyone seems to complain because we have no say on what goes on there because it is under Eastern Ariz College or somewhere.

Less than 15,000 people and we have a college and getting an extension of a university?
Another dream to turn into a nightmare as most things the town thinks up.
Convention centers, covered arenas, water falls, 7 story hotels or apts., a built up Main St. and
$10 million improvments to airport, public transit system, and on and on.

I just marked both of my ballots for the school tax override and the Home Rule question. We can control taxes and spending. Vote “NO” and “NO” on both issues!

Our public entities now have their tax increases. No more to be done, except in 3 years from now!
