A girl is beaten and kicked while security guards watch and it's all caught on tape!

I am suprised that no one had anything to say.
Since no one had anything to say I suppose I shouldn't be suprised that no one intervened.
Is this what we have come to as a society “I don't want to get involved”.
It appers as though I had different values instilled in me when I was young!
I may not have been able to stop the attack but I damn sure would have tried.

Yes, Shovelhead I know they can have guns according to ARS. but most employers don't want the responsibility of the guards having them.
Would you want them to have a weapon?

Right, I wasn't defending anyone just the facts sir.
If anyone had yelled at them it may have stopped.

Shovelhead,
You have to understand first of all that Seattle is a VERY liberal city and they do have some strange attitudes. The security guards you saw work for a private company which is contracted with by the Metro system. Like you, I sort of thought “Security Guard” meant someone who would prevent the sort of violence you saw on the news. But not in Seattle. The contract agreement specifically forbids the guards to involve themselves in a violent situation. Well DUH!
I listened to a full hour report on this on the radio today and it appears that the city is now rethinking the contract provisions and will change things - now that there has been such a big public outcry.
This all came about because the ACLU has filed complaints about use of tasers and other control methods by police.
I'll watch to see what happens and let you know. But there definitely has been a lot of complaint by the public along with demands for change. It just might happen.

Most security guards in most places have NO authority. All they can do is take down license plate numbers, descriptions and use a telephone to call the police.
Take a good look next time you see one. They don't have guns, or any enforcement equipment.
As men they should have done something.

It's still sad that so many people saw what was taking place yet no one offered any help whatsoever!
