Did you all receive your letters today telling you that in about a week you would be getting your 2010 census form in the mail?
How much money did that cost ?
Why didn't they just sent the damn form?

I got that and was talking to my neighbor about the people they are hiring for 10 bucks and up. What are they going to do if the census is a mail in survey?

Unnecessary expense at the federal level…and it all trickles down to us. I don't suppose they'd use the mail, Mike. Perhaps the Post Office is too busy with junk mail.

It is mail in census but people that have P.O boxes will have to be tracked down to where they live with a physical address.
A census worker is supposed to go to nursing homes etc and do the count there. Seems that may be breaking some law for some one at a nursing home to give my husbands information to anyone. He can not answer the questions or sign it. In order for me to put his name on the form I receive, he has to be living here with me.
I think the census is a big joke. What is the penalty if you don't fill it out?

If you go to Google and type in census form you will see a copy of what we will receive.
Take a good look at numbers 7 and 8.

Q1 & 2 deals with number of residents in your domicile on APRIL 1, 2010. April Fool's joke or serious? At this point, I just might put “0”, as I cannot guarantee we'll be in our home next month.

Q3 asks about type of home and interestingly, wants information on your mortage. (I don't think so, scooter!)

Q4 wants contact information, ie phone number. Again, I don't think so, scooter!

Q5 wants your name. Scooter, what part of 3 & 4 are you having problems with?

    Q6 seeks your gender.

Q7 wants your age and birthdate. Not sure about this one, but most likely will decline to offer my dob.

    Q8 inquires your ethnicity

    Q9 further denotes your race

Q10 appears to ask for multiple residencies. Think I'll continue being ornery by replying with something like…”in a van down by the river.”

Yup, government intelligence not hardly at work…again.

    David,
The following are my opinions, not trying to start an argument..
They are not asking price or how much you may owe on a mortgage.
I understand you not putting in your phone number. Most law enforcement have unlisted phones.
    Q. 5 on the form I have asks gender.
Q.6 is a little strange. why your age on April 1 2000? Maybe a misprint?
If you put down your birth date, they should be able to figure out your age.
I will not answer questions 7 or 8. I am American. What difference does it make what color or race?
    I can't find a question 10.

If they do a house to house census they may get a little confused. There are 4 Patricia Randalls living in the Payson area. Isn't that a scarey thought? (:
Some of us go to the same dentist, pharmacy and x-ray lab.

    Pat,
Following your suggestion, I Googled 'census 2010” and this is the first link which appears. It has all ten questions with a description as to why the question is being asked.

    http://2010.census.gov/2010census/how…

After looking at #8 again, think I'll just write in “American” in the proffered box. Reference #3, I most likely misread it, thinking the examiner wanted a mortage history on the home.

Funny thing about my phone number, I've had it listed since 1995, and I've never had a problem. Other than telemarketers anyway…modern day pirates if you ask me.

Interesting form to say the least.

4 Pat Randalls you say? So, if all 4 are in a grocery line, which one is you and which ones are the other 3? Just being ornery….cooped up inside most of the winter, when all I really want to be doing is counting laps on Arizona highways atop our motorbike.

    David,
I would probably be the oldest and ugliest.
It is scary in a small town to have that many people with the same name. I found out about two of the others in one day. I already knew about one of them before.
I went to get a mammogram, favorite thing in a woman's life. They had the wrong information and chart for me.
Next I went to the dentist and they called me Patty so ignored them at first. When they finally got my attention, I told them I thought they had the wrong chart as no one calls me Patty. Sure enough. Wrong chart. Then on to the pharmacy for a prescription, gave me the wrong one.
I always open the bag with the prescription before I pay, because I know what my pills look like and I have been given wrong ones before.
Always check when you go for medical service. I could have been in serious trouble all in one day if I hadn't checked.
Maybe I should go by my first name but people always ask funny questions when I use it.
    Julia Randall.

    Thanks Shovelhead.
I am so proud you think I may have an educated guess.
I may be in Mesa at my other house on that day. Then I will be lying on my census form. (:
