Detectives from the Gila County Sheriff's Department can only speculate what led to a crash that killed 49-year-old Mohammand Azari of Scottsdale on Houston Mesa Road.
Azari was pronounced dead at about 7 a.m. Saturday at the scene from massive head and chest trauma, investigators said.
Azari, the owner of an Oriental rug shop in Scottsdale, was on his way to his partner's home in Whispering Pines when the accident occurred. He lost control of his white Chevrolet Astro van and rolled it about 3.5 miles in from Highway 87 on Houston Mesa Road.
Investigators said speed was likely the cause of the accident, since the area where the van flipped is relatively flat.
Azari's body was sent to the Forensic Science Center in Tucson for autopsy. The accident is still under investigation.
