Registration is under way for the Payson Parks and Recreation Department's men's and women's volleyball leagues. Sign-up will continue 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays until Nov. 30 at the parks and rec offices at Green Valley Park. Entry fee is $175 per team.
Recreational divisions will be offered in both leagues. Competitive divisions may be formed if a minimum of four teams sign-up.
Last year, the women's division fielded eight recreational and six competitive teams, Recreation Coordinator Beth Kreider said. The men's division had six recreational teams.
Kreider said she is hoping to get at least 10 teams in both the men's and women's leagues and then decide if competitive divisions will be formed.
After a single- or double-round robin regular season of play in December and January, the league will culminate with a double-elimination championship tournament. Most games will be played in the Rim Country Middle School gymnasium.
In Town-sponsored youth basketball play, the third- and fourth-grade coed league is currently playing games on Saturdays.
Sign-up is over for the fifth- and sixth-grade league that will begin in January.
However, Kreider is compiling a waiting list that will be used to fill vacant roster spots.
"It's on a first come first serve basis," Kreider said.
Registration for the middle school league will be held Jan. 11 to 15 in the P&R offices.
Registration fee for all leagues is $20 which includes a minimum of eight games of play, a team T-shirt and a pizza party at season's end. A late fee of $5 is being assessed for the fifth- and sixth-grade league.
