Theatrical Group Reorganizes, Plans More Active Schedule

Payson Shoestring Productions, Payson's local theater company, has a new name and a new attitude.

The group's board of directors, which wants to infuse the 1999 season with new energy and enthusiasm, voted last week to change the company's name to the Rim Repertory.

The new name was selected to reflect the regional nature of the company and the board's goal to cultivate a talented group of local actors, directors and theater technicians with the drive and dedication to produce a full season of shows.

"We want to produce a minimum of four plays a year," Rim Repertory President Kristin LeBlanc said. "We want to attract enough actors and directors to organize an entire season ahead of time. Once we gain momentum, we may branch out into children's theater, puppet shows and other productions."

The Rim Repertory's first production of the year, "Laundry and Bourbon," a one-act comedy, will premiere at 8 p.m. April 22 at Crawford Hall, 1414 N. Easy St. Evening performances also will be held at 8 p.m. April 23, 24, 29, 30 and May 1. Admission is $3 and tickets will be available at the door.

Anyone interested in joining the Rim Repertory, suggesting a play idea or acting, directing or teaching for one of the company's future productions can call LeBlanc at 472-7469.
