The sky's the limit this Saturday as Rim country businesses prepare for the 7th Annual Business Showcase, presented by Payson Regional Medical Center and the Rim Country Regional Chamber of Commerce.
This year's theme is "Soaring to Success," Janet Crane, the chamber's event coordinator, said. "You'll probably see a lot of spaceship kind of things in the booths, but it's anybody's guess what they'll use to decorate. It's up to the imagination of the exhibitors."
The chamber has sold booths inside the 16,000-square-foot tent at Wal-Mart to 78 businesses, which will display materials, merchandise and information about their services. Four additional spaces have been sold outside the tent to Wal-Mart, Plant Fair Nursery, K-Best Radio and NAPA Auto Parts.
The event blasts off under the big top Friday evening with the annual showcase mixer, this year sponsored by Simmons, Crabdree and Associates, and by Phil White Ford. The mixer is open to chamber members and exhibitors only, and runs from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Admission is $3.
Saturday, the actual showcase begins at 9 a.m. and is open until 3 p.m. Crane promises plenty of food, fun and first-hand information about the men and women who make up the Rim country's business climate. Admission to the showcase is free.
Rummage sale Sunday
The fun doesn't end with the showcase.
The day after the business showcase, Santa's List is hosting its annual Community Rummage Sale in the tent.
For the fourth year, the charity's indoor swap meet will raise money to help provide a brighter Christmas for the area's less fortunate families.
Scott Smith, organizer of the annual event, said he's sold 93 booths under the big top to vendors who will be selling everything from afghans to stuffed zebras, "and probably even a kitchen sink.
"This year, there's a pretty even split between people selling their used stuff and crafters," Smith said. "There will be a wide variety of items for people to choose from, and with 93 booths, people should plan on spending quite a bit of time there."
Santa's List is also running a food booth for the event, featuring hot dogs, nachos, popcorn and soda.
The rummage sale runs Sunday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. and admission is free. For more information about the rummage sale, contact Smith at 474-5450.
