Trying to keep pace with their state eighth-ranked varsity counterparts, the Payson High School jayvee team pushed its record to 5-2 with convincing wins over Santa Cruz on Monday and Coolidge the following day.
In the 11-4 triumph over SC, the Horns rode the power-hitting of Kacy Parker, Rob Ochoa and Chris Estabrook to the win. All slapped home runs.
Parker was also the pitcher of record, picking up the win after hurling a complete seven innings.
In the victory, coach Jerry Daniels also cited "a good defense that shut Santa Cruz down."
A 13-6 victory over Coolidge might have been sub-titled the "Tyler Pettet Show," as the youngster pitched a complete game win and swatted a grand slam home run. He also scored three runs.
In addition to the play of Parker and Pettet, Daniels lauded Joey Klein and Caleb Miller for exceptional efforts on both offense and defense.
The jayvees return to action today (Friday) at 3:30 p.m. in Globe against the Tigers.
