Mavs Best 10 Foes In Track, Field

The Lady Longhorn track and field team boasts of Stephanie Robertson and Rheanna Martinez. The Rim Country Middle School Lady Mavericks ride the heroics of Jenny Cohen.

Like Robertson and Martinez do for the PHS varsity, Cohen does for the RCMS cause: wins golds in most events she enters.

At the RCMS Invitational held April 21 in Payson, Cohen helped the Lady Mavs upset previously unbeaten Prescott Glassford Hills for the meet championship. Accumulating 139 points, the Mavs edged Glassford (105) and the other nine teams who entered the track and field fray.

Cohen's contributions included winning the 400 meters and running a leg on the first-place finishing 4x100 and 4x400 Lady Mav relay teams. In the 200 meters, Cohen finished third.

The team win was the Mavericks' second invitational championship of the season. Earlier this season, the Lady Mavs won the Globe Invitational crown.

On the Maverick boys' team, eighth-grader Waylon Pettet fueled the squad to a fourth-place finish with wins in both the 200 meters and the long jump. In the 100-meter dash, he was second. Pettet was RCMS's only individual boys' champion.
