The Payson Grays fell off the road to success April 21 when the Fountain Hills Kool Kats --who are in last place in the Valley Senior League -- ran away with a twin bill, 27-23 and 16-14.
In the first loss, Payson seniors team member Ron Maksymowski said, the Payson crew was "never in it, as they committed seven errors." Tom Neblett was the losing pitcher.
In the second-game loss, the Grays fell behind early but rallied for five runs in the bottom of the sixth to pull within 16-14.
A Grays rally that loaded up the bases in the bottom of the seventh fizzled when two ground outs and a fly to left field ended the threat and the game. Maksymowski was the losing pitcher.
The Grays play an unusual tripleheader against the seven-time world champion Mesa Wranglers beginning at 9 a.m. Wednesday at Rumsey Park.
