Someone in the Payson Women's Golf Association is staying up late at night formatting the group's weekly tournaments.
Consider this "1-2-3" tournament the association played last week on the Payson course:
On hole one, the scoring was "one best ball of the foursome."
The next hole, it was "two best balls of the foursome."
Hole three scoring was "three best balls of foursome."
On hole four, the 1-2-3 scoring began all over again.
"The game continued this way through the 18 holes," said PWGA member Dorothy Back.
After all that complicated scoring, play ended in a tie when two foursomes carded identical tallies of 125.
The team of Brenda Baker, Janie Nutting, Jennie Stevens and Back deadknotted with Mary Gillilan, Gerry Quisenberry, Glenda Cook and Billie Gibbs.
In addition to being on one of the winning teams, Stevens pocketed closest-to-the-pin prize money on hole five, finishing 26 feet, 1 inch away. Etta Nichols copped honors on 17, falling only 2 feet, 1 inch short of an ace.
