During last week's interclub meet with Prescott Antelope Hills, homestanding Payson Men's Golf Association members took advantage of their familiarity with the local course to win three of four closest-to-the-pin contests.
The only honor the visitors captured was on hole 8, where Roy Ecclestin hit to within 6 feet, 11 inches of the flag.
Best effort among the Payson crew was turned in by John Pauley on 17. There, he missed an ace by only 1 foot, 3 inches.
On hole 5, Jack Greenshield finished just 4 feet, 2 inches short. With a swat to within 15 feet, 11 inches of hole 14, Wayne Little pocketed prize money.
Both clubs kept separate score cards in the low gross/low net by flights tournament.
Payson's low gross champions included Frank Szakal (76) in flight one, Little (78) in flight two, Roland Kruse (87) in flight three and Vic Kostecki (91) in the fourth flight.
In low net competition, Don Back took first flight honors with a 70.
Ed Flores finished with a 66 to win flight two honors.
Tom Englesham was crowned the flight three champion with a 65.
Tony Legault carded a 75 and won flight four by one stroke over Armond Werle (76).
