Little League programs exist only because of the tireless dedication of the volunteers who serve in just about every capacity. Often it's a thankless job, but when the season rolls to an end, as it has in Payson, the volunteers can revel in the knowledge that they've taken that extra step to help youngsters realize their potential.
It's time for a new set of volunteers to step forward and supplement the efforts of those who've chosen to remain with the local baseball program.
Beginning at 6 p.m. July 20, at the Payson Fire Station, the Payson Little League will conduct its annual election of board members.
Officials are inviting those interested to attend the meeting, become involved and make a difference.
Call Stephanie Dvorak at 472-6500 for more information.
From July 19 to 30, the Town of Payson Parks and Recreation Department will be holding registration for the 1999 Fall Youth Soccer League. Players ages 4 to 9 years old are eligible to participate. Games will be played on weeknights in September and October. The registration fee is $20.
Call the P&R Department at 474-5242, ext. 7 for more information.
Also on the recreation front, registration for the Adult Fall Coed Softball League will be held Aug. 9 to 20 at the office located at 1000 W. Country Club Drive.
There will be an eight-team limit in the league and each squad is guaranteed to play at least eight games. Games will be played weeknights in September.
There will be no season-ending tournament.
Next Monday, the "Learn It The Longhorn Way" youth football camp for aspiring players, eight years of age through incoming eighth-graders, begins at Payson Elementary School.
The camp is a great way to acclimate your youngster to the coming season, whether it be in the Central Arizona Youth Football Association or the Rim Country Middle School teams.
The half-day camp begins at 8 a.m. and ends at noon from July 19 to 21.
On hand to instruct the youngsters will be the coaching staff at Payson High School and selected varsity players. The camp fee is $30.
Registration forms are available at offices of the Payson Roundup.
Payson Youth Football registration forms for both cheerleaders and players are available at the Farm Bureau Insurance office at 708 E. Highway 260, Suite B-2.
Registration and a physical examination must be completed by Aug. 2, the first day of practice. Cost is $50 for players and $35 for cheerleaders.
