World/Aid Focuses On Relief And Evangelism

World/Aid, a non-profit 501 C3 agency and member of the Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability, is based in Payson.

It was founded in 1983 by Larry Ward, a minister, under the umbrella of Share the Care.

Ward has spent more than 40 years doing relief work and serves as board chairman of World/Aid, a 25-member missionary outreach program.

Randy Roberson, recently named as executive director of the group, has a 15-year background in communications, primarily in radio and television. Roberson is a former radio announcer with KMOG radio in Payson.

Roberson said he is the only salaried person in the missionary group that receives grants from many different foundations.

"There are easy grants out there such as the U.N., but in many ways you sell your soul to take that money," Roberson said.

He said that many such organizations will not allow an evangelical focus. "But that's what we are," Roberson said, "first and foremost, a Christian-based organization."

Roberson said World/Aid will focus on the need for food as the people of Kosovar return to what little is left of their homes.

World/Aid has some 25 volunteer members around the United States, and Roberson said the organization needs more, especially people who can provide medical assistance.
