Eighth-Graders Were Just Great

As the chairperson of the Rim Country Middle School 8th Grade Promotional Dance Parent Committee, I would like to take this opportunity to let the residents of Payson know what a credit to our community this group of fine young people are. In view of all of the negative things we hear on a daily basis regarding the nation's youth, I feel it is my obligation to "sing the praises" of Rim Country Middle School's Class of 1999.

The dance was held on May 25, following the graduation ceremonies. There were more than 200 students in the RCMS Gym for three hours. I was very warm, there was loud music, the dance floor was crowded. Not one problem arose all night! There were no altercations of any kind, nor was there even a hint of any kind of inappropriate, distasteful, disrespectful or illegal behavior or activity.

In short, the kids were great and everyone, including the chaperones and adult volunteers, had a wonderful time.

I was also impressed and touched by the great number of students who expressed their appreciation and gratitude for the time and effort the Parent Committee had put into making the dance a night to remember. Parents, RCMS faculty and administrators, these young people are a credit to you.

Payson High School administration and staff, you are fortunate to be adding such a great group of students to your school. I know they will continue to "do us proud"!

I look forward to helping my son and his classmates in their endeavors at Payson High School.
