Man Strikes Probation Officer, Flees Scene

Payson Police are asking the county attorney's office to issue a felony warrant for the arrest of an East Verde Estates man after the man got into a scuffle with his probation officer and fled Friday afternoon.

Payson Police Officer David Blalock said the man, Ryan Cribbs, 19, was being sought for numerous outstanding felony warrants before the incident with his probation officer, Mick Greer.

"He showed up at a Main Street business to pick up a check and the probation officer made contact with him," Blalock said. "A struggle ensued. There were no injuries. Then he took off in a pickup truck, with a woman driving."

Blalock said the woman, an acquaintance of Cribbs', was later stopped in her truck in front of Walgreens and told police she knew nothing about the incident, that Cribbs rode a short way with her and got out of the truck on McLane between Frontier and Rim View.

"I'm glad the probation officer wasn't hurt -- that's the main thing," Blalock said. "(Cribbs) will show up in the wrong place sooner or later and we'll take him into custody."
