The Payson Grays senior softball team finished with a sister-kisser in a doubleheader against Scottsdale's Good Times, winning the opener 12-7 but dropping the nightcap 15-14.
In winning the first game played Thursday at Rumsey Park, the Grays pounded out 19 hits, many of them when runners were in scoring position, team member Ron Maksymowski said.
In the second game loss, however, the Grays couldn't continue the clutch hitting shown earlier. "We collected 26 hits, but left runners in scoring position," Maksymowski said.
Maksymowski was the pitcher of record in both contests.
Offensively, Fran Doering was the team leader with six hits over the course of two games. His contributions included three circuit blasts and one double.
Dusty Wright, Vern Stearns and Bob Lynch also finished with six base hits each.
Bob Corbin and Walk Knasick tallied five hits each.
In the opening victory, the team flourished defensively behind the efforts of Frank Adams, Neil McVicar and Jack Sharp, Maksymowski said.
