Locals Shine On Prescott Course


In Payson Women's Golf Association action, the nine-hole group spent most of the early season on the road while the 18-holers played in a low-net by flight tournament.

The nine-hole faction's most recent sojourn was to a Prescott Country Club Invitational played May 20. Betty White paced the locals in the B flight finishing second among the low-net contingent. In C flight, Rubie Billerbeck won top honors over teammate Julie Lynch, who was runner-up.

Pat Marvel won the closest-to-the-pin competition.

One week prior to going to Prescott, the PWGA traveled to Beaver Creek for another invitational. In flight one, Rose Devar emerged victorious for the Rim golfers. Billerbeck was fourth in flight two and Marvel third in flight three.

In the 18-hole group's low-net tournament played May 18 at PGC, Janie Nutting took top honors in A flight with a 69. Mary Gillilan finished with a 70 and silver-medal plaudits. Marge Landra and Kay Davis dead-knotted for third place, carding identical scores of 72.

Etta Nichols was a one-person dynamo in B flight, running away with the title with a 63.

Lynn Kools and her 72 card was good enough for second place.

In C flight, the top three finishers were Cheryl Kennerly (62), Dorothy Back (70) and Rowena Marrs (74). Marrs also won the closest-to-the-pin prize money on hole 14. Etta Nichols was closest on eight.
