Small Turnout, Big Fun For Pmga

A disappointing turnout of only 11 Prescott golfers showed up Thursday at Payson Golf Course for an intra-club meet with the 45-member strong Payson Men's Golf Association.

But that didn't hamper the fun, PMGA member John Calderwood said. "Despite the small turnout, a great time was had by all due to great weather, nice course conditions and a good lunch."

In the low-gross and low-net by flight tournament, Greg Williams turned in a 77 to capture low-gross honors in the A flight. In B flight, Wayne Little won with an 84. C flight honors went to Ralph Lindo for his card of 78. Don Nicholas checked in with a 93 and won the Flight D shootout.

In low net play, Dick Harding (67) edged runner-up Bill Overton (68) by a single stroke in flight A.

Among the flight B contenders, Chuck Walker and Ed West tied with scores of 69 but Walker was crowned champ on a scorecard playoff.

Tom Eagleson ran away with the Flight C title, finishing with a 63. The closest competitor, Jim Jones, finished with a 68.

In flight D, Dean Bulkley turned in a 69 and won the title. Vick Kostecky used a closest-to-the-pin win on hole five to finish as runner-up with a 71.

On the 135-yard hole, Kostecky was only 3 feet, 7 inches away from an ace.

Other prize winners on the day included Bill Overton (hole 14; 1 foot, 4 inches), Chuck Walker (hole eight; 5 feet 3 inches) and Ralph Lindo (hole 17; 2 feet, 11 inches).
