Tonto Basin's Mark Kile is one of the hottest fishermen on the professional fishing circuit.

As a qualifier for the Bass Master Classic, he'll soon go head-to-head against the best pros from around the country. Only last month, he teamed up with Flagstaff's Levi Shelton to win an AllStars-sponsored Pro-Am tournament at Lake Pleasant. And just last week, he took runner-up honors at an AllStar Team Invitational, also held at Pleasant.

This time around his partner was Rob Vander Kooi of Mesa. The pair weighed in a six-fish limit of 17.05 pounds that included a 4.16-pounder. For their efforts, the two pocketed $1,922 in prize money. According to AllStar officials, Kile and Vander Kooi fished topwater lures and Carolina-rigged plastics in bushy coves in the north end of the lake.

Kile was the only northern Gila County angler to finish in the top 10. The final AllStar Bass Team Invitational of the season is scheduled for June 12 at Roosevelt.
