Bright sunny skies and a Rim country citizenry scratchin' for a recreational cooldown meant a hip-hop busy opening at Taylor Pool Saturday afternoon.
Pool manager Jim Quinlan describes the scene: "It was wall-to-wall people, one of the busiest opening (days) we've ever had. By 2 (p.m.) we were out of clothing bags."
Even with the onslaught, the day went smoothly and there were no injuries or incidents, thanks to a watchful pool of lifeguards, many of whom are veterans from previous years, Quinlan said.
Sunday proved to be a bit less hectic when fewer swimmers showed up for the open swim hours from 1 to 5 p.m.
"We had about a medium turnout for a Memorial Day weekend," Quinlan said.
Taylor Pool will continue to operate with its 1 p.m. to 5 p.m schedule until June 6. Throughout July, an open evening swim will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
Admission is $1 per person.
Swimming lessons, aerobics classes, and Payson Pikes swim team practices begin June 7 and continue weekdays until the end of the swim season in August.
Complete Taylor Pool schedules may be picked up at the town Parks and Recreation offices at Green Valley Park.
