In Four Seasons Senior League slow-pitch softball play, the Payson Grays upped their credentials to 7-5, sweeping a twin-bill Friday over the Fountain Hills Kool Kats, 18-5 and 22-13.
According to Grays team spokesman Ron Maksymowski, "stellar defense in the first game and 25 base hits" fueled the Payson team to the win.
In the second game, however, the Payson defense faltered, giving up 10 runs in the first two innings.
"But we settled down to hold the Fountain Hills team to three runs and five hits the next five innings," Maksymowski said.
Offensively, the Grays were led by Corb Corbin who had a perfect day at the plate, finishing eight-for-eight with seven singles and a home run.
Dusty Wright, Tom Neblett and Ralph Bossert and Maksymowski finished with five hits each, Maksymowski said.
Neil McVicar was the winning pitcher in the opener and Neblett in the second game.
