A Tale Of Two Good Editors

If you have enjoyed reading the Payson Roundup the past three years, it is likely that our editor, Brian Beck, played a vital part in your satisfaction. He has worked tirelessly to see that the pages of this newspaper have been filled with interesting stories and entertaining photographs.

Brian's heart is now taking him away from Payson. He has fallen in love with a beautiful young lady who lives in Tucson, and today's edition will be his last as he begins editing a new chapter in his own life.

Brian's eye for layout and nose for news played a key role in the redesign of the Roundup in December 1997, and in 1998, the Roundup staff was awarded the Arizona Newspaper Association's General Excellence Award, marking the Roundup as the best community newspaper in Arizona for our circulation size. This accomplishment wouldn't have been possible without a very talented staff and Brian's fine editorial leadership. The Roundup is now a contender for the 1999 General Excellence Award.

Thank you Brian for a job well done. We wish you and your bride the best of luck in the future.

I also would like to take this opportunity to announce that Katy Whitehouse has been appointed editor of the Roundup. Katy was born in Payson and has lived here on and off ever since. Many of our readers are familiar with her skill as a writer from her many years here as a reporter.

Two years ago, she accepted a position as editor for a newspaper in New Mexico, but we were fortunate to have her return to Payson and put her knowledge and experience back to work for us. Katy came home to Payson because she loves the Rim country and the people of this community. I know she and the rest of our team will work diligently to make sure you continue enjoying the Roundup.
