Tommy Barkley, 41, of Gisela, died Wednesday morning at a Valley hospital where he had been taken with injuries suffered in a gunshot accident.
The Gisela Volunteer Fire Department responded to the scene of the accident at Barkley's home within five minutes of the time they got the call at about 7:30 p.m. Saturday.
Contrary to earlier reports, emergency crews were able to stop the bleeding shortly after arriving at the scene. But by the time the Gisela Fire Department responded, Barkley had already lost a lot of blood.
According to medical personnel, calling the Valley medical helicopter is a normal response to the type of injury Barkley suffered.
Barkley was taken to Scottsdale Healthcare Osborne, a facility described as "one of the best hospitals in the country," and lost consciousness upon his arrival.
He underwent resuscitation for a half-hour and remained in a coma until his death Wednesday.
