Traffic in both lanes of the Beeline Highway came to a standstill at 3:30 a.m. Friday after two vehicles, an 18-wheeler and a minivan, collided near Sunflower.
Details were still slim at 9:30 a.m. Friday, but DPS Officer Karen Brown in Phoenix said one fatality had been reported. She said responding officers were still at the scene and no other information was available.
Brown said southbound traffic was being re-routed to Highway 188, but northbound traffic was still backed up. "There's nowhere to send them," she said.
Brown said at least one lane of traffic would be open by 10 a.m. and intermittent traffic would be allowed.
