Spring links action for members of the Payson Women's Golf Association teed off last week at Payson Golf Course with "irons only" play.
Winners in the net scoring included Lynn Kools in A flight and Mary Jones in B. Kools finished with a 70 and Jones a 69. Ethel Hull took C flight honors carding a 64. In D flight, former Payson High School teacher and counselor Nancy Althoff captured top-gun laurels with a 67.
Nancy Miller won the closest-to-the pin competition on hole 14 with an off-the-tee effort that left her just 12 feet, 6 inches short of the flag.
On hole 17, Laura Meyocks pocketed prize money finishing 16 feet, 5 inches away.
According to PWGA officials, since the start of the season coincides with the spring rituals of the dressing of greens and fairways at PGC, the first two weeks of play will be in nontournament format only.
