Tonto Apache Trio Finds Gold At Phoenix Invitational

Representing the Tonto Apache track and field team, Michael Waterman, Waylon Quotskuyva and Anthony Johnson won gold medals at the Phoenix Invitational meet held last weekend at Glendale Community College.

Quotskuyva took gold medals in both the discus and shot-put while competing in the Intermediate Boys Division.

His stiffest competition came from twin brother Garrett who was second in both events. Waterman was the gold-medal winner in the Youth Boys discus event. Johnson captured the gold in the Youth Boys shot-put.

According to Tonto track team coach Billy Joe Winchester, 63 teams from as far away as Texas and Oregon competed in the invitational. The team plans to return to action April 15 in another amateur meet in Phoenix.
