The sentencing hearing for 19-year-old Daniel Gillespie, who was arrested March 27 at Payson High School for bringing a shotgun on campus, has been postponed until next week.
The high school student pleaded no contest to misconduct involving a weapon after a school official spotted him the morning of March 27 handling a shotgun in his vehicle parked in the school parking lot.
According to the police report, an officer was called to the scene at 8:13 a.m. and he found shotgun shells, a three-inch knife and a 12-gauge shotgun in Gillespie's pickup truck. Gillespie was arrested and taken to the Gila County Jail and released later that morning to the custody of his mother.
He reportedly told police he had been hunting the night before, and he forgot to take the weapon out of his vehicle.
Gillespie's sentencing is now set for 2 p.m. April 19 in Payson Justice Court.
