Kohl's Returns From Competition

Kevin Hernandez, executive assistant manager of the Zane Grey Dining Room at Kohl's Ranch, winner of the Mayor's Cup Chefs Appetizer Competition in Payson, said his experience at the Scottsdale competition April 14 was well worth the effort.


"But we didn't fare too well," Hernandez said.


The Kohl's Ranch team of seven served about 700 people, he said. Their offering of breaded avocado fingers with a prickly pear sauce served with melon chutney, got many favorable comments, but no awards.


It was the same appetizer the team had presented at the Payson Library Friends' competition Feb. 19, the dish that gave the Kohl's Ranch team first place over eight other local chefs.


"We had a great time and got a lot of good comments about our appetizer," Hernandez said Tuesday. "But people were still looking for seafood."
