Music Teacher's Legacy Lives On In Her Music And In All Of Us

My name is Elizabeth Goodale, I am 14 years old, I attend Rim Country Middle School, and I play the oboe in our school band. I am writing you in regard to the article you published on Ilene McElwee Gonzales.

In your article you said "Curtain falls on lifetime of music." I am a former student of hers and I know that Mrs. Gonzales has earned her rest. No matter what anyone says, the curtain will never fall on her music. Mrs. Gonzales made us love music, and for that her teachings, her music, her memory and her legacy will live on in us all.

My most sincere condolences go out to her family ... you were so blessed to have such a wonderful woman in your family.

Mrs. Gonzales always would say "smile, it gets worse" -- today I would like to say to Mrs. Gonzales, "Smile, it only gets better from here."

Thank you so much, Mrs. Gonzales. You will always be a part of our lives.

Elizabeth Goodale, Payson
