After pouring over lots of entries, the judges picked a winner for the T-shirt design competition. Congratulations to Melissa Vaillancourt. Melissa and the first 100 walkers to preregister for this year's third annual walkathon Sept. 23 will receive free T-shirts. T-shirts are available in medium and extra-large only.
T-shirts will also be for sale at the 4th of July craft fair. If you'd like to order one in another size, or give one as a gift, Mary Dietzen will take special orders at 476-3433. Orders must be in by the end of May. All proceeds from the walkathon, including monies raised through the advance sale of T-shirts, go to the community owned Pine-Strawberry Medical Center.
Speaking of craft fairs
Summer is on its way and the traditional welcome is Memorial Weekend activities. The Pine-Strawberry Arts-n-Craft Guild has been hard at work since Jan. 1 to gear up for the three annual craft fairs, the first of which will be Memorial Day. We will see some of the regular vendors and some new ones.
All the money raised by the Guild goes right back into the community and the fairs are great fun. The historic Strawberry Schoolhouse will also be opening soon and as I get dates, times and specifics, I will pass it on.
Sirens sounding again
The Pine-Strawberry Community Alert System might be fraying your nerves each Saturday ... but it is for a good reason.
The P-S Fire Department and the P-S Emergency Task Force have been testing the sirens each week to be sure that if a fire emergency comes up during our impending fire season, the entire community alert system will work properly. Since the sirens have only been with us a few months and the operators are new to the system, they are testing each Saturday at 11:55 a.m. until further notice.
Anytime you hear a siren, you should tune your radio to 1420 KMOG for news and or instructions. The station will announce if there is a test, or an emergency.
