W. Franklin Compton, 81, died Dec. 18, 2000, in Payson. He was born April 23, 1919, in Brigham City, Utah. A retired officer of the Southern Pacific Railroad, he had lived in Payson for the past 16 years. He was a member of the Payson United Methodist Church, Payson Masonic Lodge No. 70, Scottish Rite bodies (32nd Degree), El Zaribah Shrine, Zane Grey Shrine Club, and Eastern Star Ponderosa No. 64.
He served in World War II as chief warrant officer, 115th Combat Engineers. He was married to Margaret Ellen Summerson Compton for more than 52 years.
Survivors include one son, Lynn Richard Compton, of Gilbert, Ariz.; one daughter, Judith Ann Compton of Payson; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Ellen Summerson Compton.
Memorial Services were held Thursday, Dec. 21 at the Payson United Methodist Church.
