Insurance Clerk Pleads Not Guilty To Theft Charges

Misty Dawn Murphy, the former employee of a local insurance agency, pleaded not guilty to a charge of theft during an arraignment hearing Wednesday in Gila County Superior Court.

"We really have no comment," Dennis McCarthy, Murphy's attorney, said. "She's presumed innocent. The state has to prove its case against her."

Deputy County Attorney Patti Wortman will attempt to prove allegations that while 26-year-old Murphy was employed by Ted Pettet State Farm Insurance she took nearly $4,000 of the company's money for her own use.

A formal complaint was filed Nov. 19.

Murphy's next court appearance, a pretrial conference, is scheduled for March 9.
