Young Swimmers Make Waves Against Clippers

Fledgling swimmers in their first season of competition paved the way for the Payson swim team in its dual meet Saturday against the Cottonwood Clippers.

Before an overflow crowd of fans and parents at Taylor Pool, Lauren Galhotra and Kyler Cord swam their way to first-place finishes in the maximum four events an athlete is allowed to participate.

Competing in the six-year-old girls division, Galhotra captured golds in the butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke and freestyle.

Cord duplicated his teammate's feat in the 6-and-under boys division.

Ribbons were awarded to top-six finishers on both squads but because the meet is considered a recreational event no team score was kept.

Next up for the local swim team is a July 15 dual meet at Taylor against the Prescott Valley swim team. Action begins at 8 a.m. and continues until 12:30 p.m.

Also July 15, eight members of the Payson swim team will travel to Kingman to compete in the Dolphin Invitational swim meet. The traveling team includes Megan Disbrow, Amy Buckner, Tanner Hatch, Reed Hatch, Jordan Boll, Jaycee Boll, Brooke Bennett and Shelby Bennett.

In Kingman, the Payson swimmers will battle representatives of 12 teams from Arizona and another from California..

Also on the Payson agenda is the Arizona Parks and Recreation Association-sponsored Swimmer's Classic Meet to be held July 22 on the campus of Arizona State University in Tempe.
