All Business Woes Don't Lead To Wal-Mart

I was disturbed to read a comment made by Lorraine Pruiksma in your (July 18) article, "Country Corner closing up shop," blaming Wal-Mart for the closing of her store.

Wal-Mart doesn't compete with her store on many levels. Wal-Mart employees do, however, shop in her store and spend part of their pay checks. I know, because I'm one of them.

Has anyone noticed that there are businesses which have not only survived alongside Wal-Mart for 10 years, but have grown and prospered. Ace Hardware, Plant Fair and Walgreens, just to name a few, are doing fine. I suppose for the next couple of years every business that closes will blame Wal-Mart.

I'm sure businesses came and went in Payson before Wal-Mart. Who did they blame when their businesses failed back then?
