Monroes Celebrate 50th Anniversary


Jim and Vivian Monroe of Payson (above) celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary recently with a dinner and a cruise with their family. The Monroes, pictured at left on their wedding day, were married July 14, 1950, in St. James, Minn. They moved to Mesa, Ariz. in 1970 and to Payson in 1985. The couple have three children, Lynda Rugg of Raleigh, N.C. and Mary Hoeffel and Jane Casartelli of Glendale, Ariz. They also have five grandchildren. Jim Monroe was a senior master sergeant in the Air Force and retired in 1970. Vivian Monroe is a homemaker. They met when they were 10 years old in a one-room school house. They were high school sweethearts and have been together ever since.
