A former Longhorn golf standout and his highly acclaimed Payson High School coach will be a part of the Arizona Coaches Association All-Star match when it is contested June 5-6 at Francisco Grande in Casa Grande.
Dave Bradley, who was named East Coach of the Year after leading the Longhorns to the regional championship this spring, will coach the North team.
Joining him will be Tyler Perna, a recent PHS graduate and the East Region individual champion. In earning the title early this month at Chaparral Pines and Rim Club, Perna finished with a score of 164, three strokes ahead of his nearest competitor.
Perna's appointment to the all-star game by state golf coaches was an honor "richly deserved," Bradley said.
"He began the season as kind of an obscure player but then really came on."
Also representing the East region on the North team are a pair of top-notch players from Show Low Jason Mauder and Josh Silliman.
The all-star clash, Bradley said, will be contested in a Ryder Cup-like format in which the field will participate in several formats, including best ball, match play and scramble. Thirty-six holes will be played Monday and 18 holes Tuesday.
