William Alfred McTyre, 73, of Bear Flat died Thursday, June 1, 2000. A lifelong resident of Arizona, he was born March 23, 1927, in Phoenix.

He worked for Reynolds Metals of Phoenix for 30 years, was a lifetime member of the Civil Air Patrol and was a member of the Tonto Amateur Radio Association, who was known to fellow members as N7FVT.

Mr. McTyre retired to Bear Flat in 1977, where he was president of the Bear Flat Homeowners Association for 17 years. He was an avid sportsman and he enjoyed the outdoors.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Mary A. McTyre, of Payson; one son, Bruce H. Johnson and his wife, Danye, of Flagstaff, Ariz.; one daughter, Donna McTyre Beck and her husband, Bill, of Sierra Vista, Ariz.; two sisters, Anne Mariani of Phoenix and Mary Lou Lawhorn of Anchorage, Ala.; and two grandchildren, Sarah and Zane Avalos of Sierra Vista.

Donations may be made to the Bear Flat Homeowners Association's fire truck fund, c/o Bill Baxter, 1836 E. Elfreda, Tempe, AZ 85284.

Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Payson United Methodist Church, 414 N. Easy St. in Payson.
