Swimming Lessons & Swim Team


Registration for all swimming lessons, swim team, adult lap swim and water aerobics will continue until classes are full. Weather permitting, Taylor Pool is open for daily swimming from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Lessons & water aerobics began June 5 and continue throughout the summer; adult lap swim and swim team begin June 12.

Synchronized Swimming Classes

Sign up now for synchronized swimming classes. This class begins June 19 and will be offered from 9 a.m. to 9:55 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. to 6:25 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. The fee is $15 per each two-week session.

Young and old are invited to attend, but participants must be capable of swimming unassisted in the deep end of the pool.

Summer Recreation Center

The Summer Rec Center opens Monday, June 12. Hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday through July 28. Scheduled closures include June 15 and 16, July 4, and July 19, 20 and 21. Youth who have completed grades 4 through 10 are invited to attend.

The center is held at the Rim Country Middle School gym and offers basketball, volleyball, ping-pong, billiards and other activities. No registration is required; admission is free.

Last call for Girls' Softball

We still have a limited number of openings on girls' softball teams on a first-come, first-served basis. The youth softball program is for girls who are ages 8 to 15 as of Aug. 1, 2000. The fee is $25 per child for each program.

Crafty Kids

This two-week class meets at Rumsey Park, Monday through Thursday.

Session I: June 26 to 29 and July 3 to 7 (except July 4).

9 a.m. to 10 a.m., Moms & Tots (3-5)

10:15 a.m. to noon, Ages 6 to 9

Session II: July 10 to 13 and July 17 to 20

9 a.m. to 10 a.m., Moms & Tots

10:15 a.m. to noon, Ages 10 to 12

Registration is $25 per child, which includes all project materials. Enrollment is limited.

Boys' Basketball Camps

Registration is now in progress for these basketball camps. Boys who will be in grades 4 to 6 this fall are invited to attend camp from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. June 12 to 16 at the old PHS gym. Camp for boys who will be in grades 7, 8 and 9 this fall will be from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. June 19 to 23. Registration is $25 per child at the Parks & Recreation office. Co-sponsored with Longhorn Basketball.

Girls' Basketball Camp

Girls ages 8 to 14 as of Aug. 1 are invited to attend this camp from 8 a.m. to noon, July 17 to 20 at the old PHS gym. Registration is $30 per child at the Parks and Recreation office. Co-sponsored with Longhorn basketball.

Tennis Lessons

These classes will be held each Tuesday and Thursday, June 13 through June 29. Space is still available in the 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. class, which is open to youths ages 6 and older. Beginner adults will meet from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. and intermediate/ advanced adults from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Registration is $20 per person. Class sizes are limited to 8, so reserve your spot today.

Men's and Women's Softball Leagues

Registration for the Men's and Women's Summer Softball Leagues ends today (June 9). Recreation and competitive divisions will be offered as long as a minimum of four teams sign up for each division.

The fee is $250 per team (not $275, as previously announced). Games are scheduled to begin in mid- to late-June.
