Mary E. Peters, director of the Arizona Department of Transportation, will be the featured speaker June 21 during the Eggs and Issues breakfast meeting from 7:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. at Macky's Grill. The event is co-sponsored by the Rim Country Regional Chamber of Commerce and the Payson Regional Economic Development Corporation.
Peters is a 15-year member of ADOT and was appointed by Governor Jane Hull in March 1998 as the first female director of the Arizona Department of Transportation. She is responsible for more than 6,100 miles of roadway statewide, as well as motor vehicle titling and registration and aircraft registration.
Peters manages a department of 4,800 employees, which is organized into four divisions. They are the Intermodal Transportation Division, the Motor Vehicle Division, the Transportation Planning Division and the Aeronautics Division. She also is actively involved in state legislative activities and transportation issues, not only in Arizona, but at the national level.
Chamber CEO Tom Kaleta asked Peters to address the local business community to clarify rumors regarding a bypass roadway in Payson, the completion of the four-lane Beeline Highway, traffic control devices, medians, impact studies to evaluate their effect on the business community and other highway projects.
